Violet Energy EP (Remastered)
I’ve decided to issue out a re-release of my very first EP release titled Violet Energy.
These are some of the songs that I created when I just started out.
And they all mean a lot to me and I hold these songs very close to my heart.
So I thought that I would share my story of each song with you and my
experience of writing this record.
I refer to this record and time in my life as the old-school Carmichael music.
The sound is completely different from what I’m creating now
but I like to revist these songs every now and then as it
makes me proud of how far I’ve come in the last few years.
So as my gift to you, you can download the entire release
including a remix by Gavin Edom for free. I believe that
music is a great way to tell story’s and to express yourself.
I find it hard to put a price tag on something so personal sometimes.
So I would prefer that money didn’t get in the way.
However if you liked the any of the songs,I encourage you to share
them or to share this EP with your friends. If you also feel inclined
your more then welcome to offer a donation and to set your own price tag.
But if your going to pay, only pay what you think it deserves.
Thank you and this is my story.
‘Black Light’ was the very first song I ever wrote.
I was in grade nine – I was fourteen years old.
This was the first time that I experimented with a persona;
I created a character in order to sing the song
from a different perspective.
You’re Not Alone
When I wrote ‘You’re Not Alone,’ I can remember how proud I was of it.
It made me feel really happy to sing the song and it felt good to
dance to it (when no one was watching);
looking back at the 16 year old Stephen, I don’t think anything has changed.
The tempo of this song is a lot quicker then the songs
I would usually write and at the time I enjoyed
experimenting and creating the instrumental melodies.
In The Atmosphere
‘In The Atmosphere’ is still to this day is one of my most
favourite songs that I’ve ever written.
One that is really personal and close to my heart.
It also took me a very long time to write – around 4-6 months.
I can remember, it was around the time of finishing grade 12;
a lot of stuff was going on at the time and in a lot of ways,
I wasn’t really coping very well. I found that it felt a lot better
when I put how I was feeling into the song, it felt good to get it out.
And I don’t think I’ve ever been so honest and truthful in a song before.
‘Violet Energy’ is the title track of my EP.
The song was written just as I finished grade 12.
I can remember how proud I was of the song.
The song is about running away from your fears
and its also about not being strong enough to stand up to be yourself.
I felt that this track conceptualised and expressed the theme of the entire EP.
(Gavin Edom Remix)
The ‘Violet Energy’ remix by Gavin Edom was
one of the very first projects I worked on with Gavin.
The remix wasn’t part of the original release but I wish that it was,
so I’ve decided to include it in this re-release.
Gavin Edom is the producer that I have worked on with
almost all my releases – such as ‘Girl’ and ‘Falling For You.’
Gavin has always been the first person I show and explore song ideas with.
As well as being a creative genius and an amazing producer,
Gavin is a good friend and I’m lucky to have him as part of my creative team.
